A native of Bossier City and 1975 graduate of Louisiana Tech, Wendy Wilson Billiot moved to Thibodaux in 1978 and went to work in the oil field. She worked as a roustabout, an offshore dispatcher, and later as a deckhand on offshore crew boats. She has lived in South Louisiana for almost 30 years and currently resides on three acres in the marsh of Bayou DuLarge near Theriot, Louisiana. She is the mother of one daughter and four sons ranging in ages from 11 to 25, all of whom she has home educated.
Wendy is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain offering educational wetland tours and charter fishing. Her experience working on offshore crew boats and fishing with her sons has prepared her for this season of touring and fishing. Introducing visitors to the Louisiana wetlands and educating them about the value of restoring and protecting this rapidly disappearing wetland is her passion. This passion is reflected in her book, "Before the Saltwater Came"
Since Hurricanes Katrina and Rita's compounded negative impact on the tour industry, Wendy has branched out and now offers "casual fishing charters". While teaching women to fish, she can share her passion for the preservation of this rich estuary that provides a culture and way of life for her family and many others.
